I really wanted to like this story and it had a lot going for it but there were certain things that I just did NOT like about it. (Warning, this review will have a bit of a spoiler but without mentioning it, I wouldn't be able to write about what it was that I felt strange about within the story).

My main issue with this novella was Itch being in a relationship with Tess while marrying Jen. This just didn't really make sense. Okay, so they were on the verge of breaking up and everything but still (especially how it is mentioned that they were engaged?! And that he didn't want to get married to her and then out of the blue, he gets married to Jen). So strange! And then he goes home, sees Tess moving her things from his house and is all like "this is my wife Jen, my fiance Tess". What in the world? Otherwise it was a nice little story. I liked several things about it but felt that it could have been much better and some of the aspects weren't realistic. All-in-all I was happy to have read it but won't be rereading it. (I'm one of those people to loves to reread books).

I think the story would have worked much better if Tess and Itch had been just friends and the author had left out that they were engaged, which I felt didn't work for the story.

One Night In Reno The Silver Strand Officers' Club edition by Rogenna Brewer Romance eBooks Reviews

A chance meeting when she's down on her luck, no money or food with a little boy and dog to care for, she meets a Good Samaritan.
I liked this book but it was to short to really get detailed building on their relationship.
I would love to meet a man that just wants to help you and your child, no strings attached. Liked the ending but yet again, it was to short to really get detailed for the building of them falling in love. The little boy and his dog are adorable.
I'm in awe of how Rogenna Brewer tugs heartstrings to the point that I had a knot in my throat through the whole story!! I LOVE these characters, and didn't want the story to end. Wonderful, wonderful little gem of a book. Buster, hon, you stole the show... -)
This book was really well written, though it was shorter than I would have liked.
Really a good read. I recommend it.
One way to have a `little novel' deliver big novel excitement is to have a lot of surprises with a lot of things happening. "One Night in Reno" does this with 5-Star power!

In a way it may be better not to know too much about the plot ahead of time because "One Night in Reno" keeps surprising the reader by ever expanding and always becoming a different kind of story.

To make this dynamic plot expansion work in a `little novel' requires that the writer create a non-obvious foundation for each new surprise. This takes a great deal of skill and most authors don't do it. Indeed, many `novellas' are really just long short stories. Not "One Night in Reno"! It has twelve chapters and as such it is a true `little novel' with the kind of story that delivers full size 300-page reading enjoyment. Enjoyment you can get in one night's reading. This is why I am a big fan of novellas. More reading enjoyment in far less reading time.

The writing style is fast and flawless. I never had to read a single sentence twice because the meaning wasn't clear on the first reading. This is how I'd like to write fiction. The prose serves as a great model for aspiring writers.

Also, each time there was an interesting twist in the story, I would think about it and concluded that I should have seen the twist coming. But I didn't and that was the most enjoyable part of all. To be surprised when the author was playing fair with you gives reading its spice. This is fresh, wake yourself up, writing. The author has a true talent for writing the novella.

I don't want to say too much about the plot because the blurb by the publisher tells you all you really need to know to decide if you want to read this story. But I can tell you this "One Night in Reno" is a 5-start reading experience that makes me want to read everything else the author has written. This was my first Rogenna Brewer book read so I am delighted to have `discovered' another author I can look forward to reading! The price is right at 99 cents!

"One Night in Reno" gets my highest recommendation!
This is a sweet short story. This is a short journey that 2 people take in order to find happiness.
After losing her job and home in the same day, Jenny is in desperate need of help but, is too proud to ask for it or take it.
While on his way to Reno Nevada, Garrett see's a woman who seems to be down on her luck and helps her out.
They both realize that they need each other but, will Garrett let his guard down long enough to let someone else into his life? Will Jenny finally realize that not all men are the same?
I usually don't mind short stories and novellas are often great for getting the final story for one of those secondary character couples from another book, but this one just seemed like there should be more. I know some nice guys, but none that would marry a complete stranger. Give her money, a temporary place to stay, a ride, etc. but not marry her...even if she did have a small child and nowhere else to go. The book has some good points and could have made for a longer, well rounded story (i.e. she's still not quite sure he is a safe bet around her child, slowly the attraction grows, the criminal boss stalks her, etc.). It just isn't realistic that two people would be willing to start a life together after 2 days of knowing each other. Then there is the ex-fiance...that didn't quite go how I would expect any woman to react hearing and seeing her finance come home with another woman...

So all in all, I didn't NOT like it, but think it could have been better.
