Embers Wings of War Book 1 edition by Karen Ann Hopkins Children eBooks

Finally, a supernatural story to immerse myself into and thoroughly enjoy! Karen Ann Hopkins has come up with some very unique characters - angels and demons, like no other!

I couldn't help but find a few Twilight similarities, with the exception that Ember is already a supernatural, and that there is definitely no love-triangle in this story; the insta-love and precautions to it are there, the setting and the 'evil-doers' are all quite relatable. However, the main plot to the story is different, unique and very interesting...

After the tragic loss of her parents, Ember is sent to go stay with her "Aunt" Ila on a somewhat remote mountain in Tennessee. Having no choice but to go, Ember quickly realizes that this is exactly where she needs to be right now. Ila has answers that have been plaguing Ember for months now. And as she learns about her true nature and all of the overwhelming information that goes along with it, Ember never falters and continues to learn and strive.
Ember is a Watcher.
A Watcher is a descendent of angels. Each Watcher has their own kind of elemental power; sometimes being able to control more than one element. And even without any knowledge or proper training, Ember is a very, very strong Watcher. She must reign in her power or risk being consumed by it. And of course, through it all, she must also continue to integrate with the local humans and must forgo home-school and start public school as soon as possible.
And this is where she meets Ivan... a Growler.
Which then leads her to meet, Sawyer... a Demon.

Out of curiosity for one another, this trio quickly become friends. And soon find out that the end of the world is almost here and that they are all about to enter a war... Good vs. Evil. And know one knows where their loyalties will lie.

The author really impressed me with all of the details, small and large! Every single mention of any sort of being, setting, behavior, etc. is important. The world-building and character growth is compelling, unique and mesmerizing. Do not dismiss anything, or you may miss something important. The Watchers history, is so intriguing. The pacing of the story is crucial, the book starts slow and steady - there is a lot of information to take in. And as we learn and grow right along with our main characters, the story starts to pick up and move along at a good page-turning pace. What I really enjoyed the most is that what you see is never all that you are going to get. There are so many grey-areas within each character, you're always left in suspense as to what they may or may not do.

EMBERS sets us up for what is going to be a captivating and thrilling series. There are so many different ways that the story can go. I am really, really looking forward to watching Ember grow and move on with her story.

Embers Wings of War Book 1 edition by Karen Ann Hopkins Children eBooks Reviews

I enjoyed this book, but at times it was a little "dark" for me. I have read stories of Angels and children of Lucifer before and didn't have the same bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. This book also took longer for me to get into than most books do. I was almost ready to put it aside when the storyline really kicked in. Once the story kicked in for me, I stayed up until until 2 am to finish the book. I am curious as to what will happen in the next book and will likely purchase it.
Instead of the normal type of supernatural theme this. Book focuses on a descendent of angels battling the forces of evil. As usual the heroine is headstrong and independent, making me wonder at times if I liked her or not. I enjoyed the story, and even though this was an origin type story it was detailed enough for you to believe in but not too long where nothing was happening. Recommended.
I love when an author creates a timeless story that sizzles with drama, action and romance, and Embers ignited a flame that burns with all three.
The reason for only four stars instead of five is it didn't grab me by the throat from the first page and took awhile for me to get into it, ...even still, a sensational start to a series I am looking forward to scorching through.

The only problem is I already know I will have a terrible time waiting for the third book in this series, (and I haven't even started book 2 yet) !!!
My son and I listened to thes audio book as we road tripped. I was a little worried that he would be embarrassed by all the love scenes (which were pretty PG) but he wasn't. This book wasn't exactly what we were expecting but we both enjoyed it a great deal.
Filled with cliches and one dimensional characters. Ember was strong and capable during most of the story EXCEPT when a distressed damsel was needed to move the plot along. She gained control over her powers unbelievably easily. The interaction between Ember and Sawyer was juvenile and tedious. Two stars for a good idea, but execution was sorely lacking.
Ember is a regular girl until one day discovers she is not. She is something more than human and she is not the only one. She finds out there are a few like her, but there are a lot that fights against her kind. She finds love in the enemy, but she is not sure he is the enemy, or real love. Embers is a great begining to a fantasy story. Karen ploys all the right scenes with the right characters. I recommend it to those of us who like YA Paranomal stories with a bit of love included.
I am really happy I read this book and I am reviewing after I've read the second book in the series. I thought this book had so much potential to be better because I think the author rushed through the set up of the story. I know it would have been a lot longer but I think I felted cheated a bit because the main character learns of her abilities and masters them quite quickly. With that being said, I had nothing else to read and the first book was entertaining enough that I read the second one and I thought it was really good. So read the first, then the second. I am about to start the third in the series.
