This story is centered around an old coal camp bunkhouse that served as the home of the coal mine's foremen and at times miners in need of a place to stay. Eventually the Graves family came to own the mountain home and kept the tradition alive by welcoming visitors and any in need of a warm bed and meal. The most important part of this story is the spiritual message. Clayton Graves is the person we should strive to emulate. and a reminder of how God works and how the faithful are rewarded. The last five chapters are riveting. I couldn't put the book down and the ending evokes powerful emotions.Product details

Like a warm bath. This book was almost too relaxed, but worth the read. The first half was easy to the point of boredom, and the rest was moderately better. The people were all so lovable, especially Clayton, but nobody is that good -- that selfless. I found the book a bit "pie in the sky". Wonderful setting, wonderful people who all loved each other so much, wonderful happy ending. Just a bit too wonderful for my taste. Would God would make me half as strong and devoted a Believer as Clayton Graves is! He not only SAYS he believes, that he loves people, and that he has a continuous open-door policy, he LIVES it, every day of his life! And he raises his seven-year-old granddaughter, Elizabeth, to be exactly the same way. From reliving old memories to forming new famliiar bonds, Clayton Graves truly is a king- in every way that counts!

This book isn't my usual genre. Perhaps that's why I had difficulty really getting into the story until about 30% in. It's well written and the characters are fleshed out very nicely. The editing/grammatical errors were very few. I'm used to books keeping a steady upbeat pace. This is like a relaxed Sunday drive. I think the fact that the main character is practically a saint bothered me. It's really hard for me to relate to any character that's perfect in all they do. I understand why it was written that way, though. There's a STRONG religious (Christianity) presence throughout the entire story. I wasn't aware just how strong it would be. It lends itself well to the way the main character is developed. It was just a little too perfect for me. I'd recommend you read this for yourself before you judge it. It's a neatly wrapped up tale that reminds you a bit of a Hallmark or Lifetime channel movie. I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a awesome book. Made me smile and cry. Perfectly portrayed Love, Faith and Family. Would recommend to everyone.

Sometimes a book captures your imagination. This on captured my heart. I would gladly have paid for this book if I were no a member of this reading club. One of the best books I have ever read and now is one of my favorites. I would love to live at Coalmans Hill!
Have you ever wondered what a church family in a rural area is like, how does God speak to people, or what unconditional love means? You will find answers to these questions. Character development is awesome. You will want to move to this wonderful community up in the mountains. The main character is a unique man who is raising his granddaughter. He lives in the former bunkhouse for a closed coal mine. His home is always open to anyone who needs a meal or a place to stay. This story will make you laugh, fall in love with the characters, cry, and cheer!
